While Notion and Confluence are general-purpose workspace tools, PapaDoc is laser-focused on public and internal documentation. We provide built-in AI writing, instant multilingual translation, an embeddable AI Support Chatbot trained on your docs, and GitHub-style version control (Change Requests).
Do I need to know Markdown or HTML?
No. PapaDoc features a lightning-fast, block-based WYSIWYG editor. You can use keyboard shortcuts or standard Markdown syntax to format text quickly, but it is entirely optional.
Can I host multiple knowledge bases?
Yes! You can create multiple "Workspaces" (Spaces) under a single account. Each workspace can have its own branding, custom domain, and distinct set of team members.
Can I make my documentation private?
Absolutely. You can set a workspace to Public, Unlisted, or Private. For Private workspaces, you can protect them with a global password or restrict access to invited team members only.
Does PapaDoc support multiple languages?
Yes. PapaDoc has native i18n support. You can configure multiple languages for a single workspace, and our AI can automatically translate your English documents into over 50 languages with one click.
Can I invite my team to collaborate?
Yes, PapaDoc supports real-time collaboration. You can invite team members and assign them roles such as Admin, Editor, or Viewer to control exactly what they can modify.
How does the version control system work?
PapaDoc offers page versioning and "Change Requests" (similar to Pull Requests). Editors can draft changes in a separate branch and submit them for approval by an Admin before they go live to the public.
Can I import existing documentation?
Yes, you can import existing Markdown files. Additionally, our AI Web Crawler can automatically scan your existing website or old help center and instantly generate a PapaDoc knowledge base from it.

What are your support hours?
Our standard support operates Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 6 PM EST. Enterprise customers have access to 24/7 critical incident response.
How fast will I get a response?
We aim to respond to all standard inquiries within 24 hours. Premium users typically receive responses within 4 hours, and Enterprise users within 1 hour.
Do you offer live chat or phone support?
Live chat support is available for Premium and Enterprise users directly within the admin dashboard. Phone support and Zoom consultations are exclusively reserved for Enterprise accounts.
Where can I report a bug or request a feature?

Is my documentation data secure?
Yes. We use AES-256 encryption at rest and TLS 1.3 for data in transit. API keys and sensitive tokens for integrations are heavily encrypted in our database.
Are you GDPR compliant?
Yes, PapaDoc is fully GDPR compliant. We offer data export tools, strict data deletion processes, and cookie consent mechanisms for your public documentation sites.
How do you handle data privacy with the AI models?
We have zero-retention agreements with our LLM providers (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google). This guarantees that your proprietary documentation is never used to train their public models. Your data remains yours.

Billing & Pricing
How does the free plan work?
Our free plan allows you to create basic documentation with a limited number of pages and spaces. It’s perfect for open-source projects or individuals just getting started. It does not include advanced AI features or custom domains.
Do I pay per user or per workspace?
PapaDoc offers flat-rate pricing per account, not per seat. You pay a single subscription fee and can invite team members to your workspaces without worrying about exponential per-seat costs.
What are AI Credits and how are they consumed?
AI Credits are the currency used to power our LLM features. Different actions cost different amounts (e.g., Ask AI Search = 2 credits, AI Translation = 5 credits, Web Crawling = 10 credits). Your subscription grants a monthly allowance of credits.
What happens when I run out of AI Credits?
When you exhaust your monthly AI credits, AI-powered features (like the Chatbot and Editor Assistant) will be temporarily disabled until your billing cycle resets. Core documentation features will remain fully functional.
Can I buy more AI Credits without upgrading my plan?
Yes! You can purchase one-time "Top-Up" packages of AI credits directly from your billing dashboard. Top-up credits roll over and never expire as long as your account is active.
Can I switch from a Monthly to a Yearly plan?
Absolutely. You can upgrade to a yearly billing cycle at any time and immediately benefit from the discounted annual rate. The remaining value of your monthly plan will be prorated.
Are there limits on storage or pages?
Free plans have strict page and image storage limits. Paid plans offer unlimited pages and significantly higher storage limits (100MB to 10GB depending on the tier) for your media assets and attachments.
How do I cancel my subscription?
You can cancel your subscription securely from the Billing tab in your Admin Settings. Your premium features will remain active until the end of your paid billing period.
Do you offer enterprise agreements or custom SLAs?
Yes, our Enterprise tier includes custom service level agreements (SLAs), uptime guarantees, dedicated account managers, and invoice-based payments. Contact our sales team for details.
Is there a trial period for paid plans?
Yes, most of our premium plans come with a 7-day or 14-day free trial. You can test all the AI capabilities and custom domain features risk-free before your card is charged.
What payment methods do you accept?
We securely process payments via Lemon Squeezy and Stripe. We accept all major credit cards, PayPal, Google Pay, and Apple Pay.

How does the AI Assistant help me write documentation?
The AI Assistant lives directly inside the text editor. Highlight any sentence to have the AI expand it, summarize it, fix grammar, change the tone, or translate it. You can also generate entire structural templates by just typing a prompt.
What is the AI Web Crawler?
The AI Web Crawler is a powerful tool that ingests an external website URL (like your marketing site or legacy docs). It scans the pages up to a configured depth, extracts the content, and intelligently structures it into PapaDoc Markdown pages automatically.
How do I configure the embeddable AI Chatbot?
Every workspace comes with a customizable Chatbot widget. You can adjust its color, avatar, and welcome message. Once embedded on your site, it answers your customers' questions by retrieving context exclusively from your published documentation.
Can I train the AI Chatbot on my own internal data?
Yes! Beyond your published pages, you can upload raw text files or define explicit Q&A rules (e.g., "If asked about pricing, always reply X"). The chatbot uses these data sources to form accurate responses.
How does "Ask AI" search differ from standard search?
Standard search matches keywords. Ask AI uses semantic vector search and LLMs to understand the user's question and generate a synthesized, human-readable answer directly in the search modal, citing the source pages.
How does Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) work?
We offer four roles: Owner (full billing/delete access), Admin (can manage users and settings), Editor (can write and publish docs), and Viewer (read-only access to private spaces).
Can I connect a custom domain to my workspace?
Yes, premium plans allow you to map custom domains (like docs.yourbrand.com). PapaDoc automatically provisions and renews SSL certificates for your custom domain.
How do readers leave feedback on articles?
At the bottom of every public page, readers can click "Helpful", "Meh", or "Not Helpful" and leave an optional text comment. This feeds into your dashboard so you know which docs need improvement.
Are there analytics to track doc performance?
Yes, PapaDoc tracks Page Views, Search Queries (and failed searches without results), and Feedback metrics natively. You can also inject your Google Analytics tracking ID for deeper insights.
What integrations does PapaDoc support?
PapaDoc currently supports integrations with Google Analytics, GitHub (for version syncing), Slack (for notifications), Salesforce (lead capture via Chatbot), and Zendesk.
